On 21 Oct. 1762 he was advanced to the rank of vice-admiral, and on the 29th Jan. 1778 to that of admiral. In 1780 a battle took place for Gibraltar, along with many others, his love of women and of play-carried him to many excesses. He did suddenly on 23 May 1792, in his house in Hanover Square. With much pride he is remembered in Prestbury.
