He
was involved in Martinique in February 1762, and took possession of
St.Lucia, Grenada and St.Vincent. On 21 Oct. 1762 he was advanced
to the rank of vice-admiral, and on the 29th Jan. 1778 to that of
admiral. In 1780 a battle took place for Gibraltar, along with many
others, his love of women and of play-carried him to many excesses.
He did suddenly on 23 May 1792, in his house in Hanover Square. With
much pride he is remembered in Prestbury.
